Sona Masuri is a medium-grain rice that is a hybrid of two rice species – sona and masoori, the hybrid sona masoori combines each variety’s best features. They are grown in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
It is lightweight, aromatic and low in starch than standard rice and has less of a polished texture.
This is also a protein-rich variation of rice; per serving, you can expect about 45 grams of protein, which is higher than many other rice varieties. Sonamasuri brown rice is rich in naturally occurring oils, fibre, calcium, potassium, selenium and manganese, improves reproductive health, promotes weight loss, controls ageing and is recommended for diabetics.
The cooking instructions are the same as any other rice variety, cook them in rice cooker, open pan or any other way you may prefer. This rice is just excellent for stir-fries, and the rice works well in dishes that call for a bit of stickiness on the grains.
